Southwest Vacation Feb23 - Las Vegas

We're heading to the southwest this morning for a two week vacation.  First stop:  Lost Wages, I mean Las Vegas.

Looking at our plane at BWI Airport.

Whoops!  We ended up in New York!

Actually, that's the New York - New York Hotel-Casino.

We stayed the first two nights at the Bellagio, something I've always wanted to do.

The view from our room.  Notice the famous white fountains going off below.

The Bellagio at night.

Entrance to the Bellagio that leads through all the high-end stores.

Main lobby at the Bellagio with Chihuly art overhead.

The Bellagio Conservatory.  Each season they redo it.

The theme was Chinese New Year.

Celebrating The Year of the Rabbit.

The world's largest chocolate fountain.

We had a great dinner of at Jasmine's -- an upscale Chinese food restaurant in the Bellagio.

Jasmine looked out over the famous Bellagio fountains.

Our first evening in Vegas, we walked over to the Mirage to see the The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil.

The music was fine but nothing new -- anybody our age has heard every Beatles song ever made.  But the show was amazing, featuring 60 performers who performed amazing feats high overhead and on the stage.

Looking across the Bellagio fountain pool at Paris Las Vegas.

We had a nice breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi, part of Paris Las Vegas.

The view from our table at breakfast.

A good look at the Treasure Island Hotel-Casino.

A pirate ship floats appropriately outside Treasure Island.

And another floats outside of Senor Frogs bar-restaurant.

Looking down the strip.

Crossing over Las Vegas Boulevard to the Venetian.

The Venetian is just over the top, with its canal and gondolas.

A nice place to eat.

I'm not much of a shopper but this item did interest me.

What can you say?

We passed by the original Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign coming into town from the rental car center without taking a photo;  now I have one.

The massive magnificent Caesars Palace.

A statue of the great man himself in the main lobby.  I wonder what he would think if he could see Caesars Palace?

The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace.

Fountain of the Gods at Caesars Palace.  The Fountain of the Gods features statues of Neptune, Jupiter, Mars, Diana, Venus and Pegasus.

Winged Pegasus

Neptune at lower right.

Scary dragon in the Forum Shops.

The Trevi Fountain outside the Forum Shops.

We drove over to the MGM Grand to go to Brad Garrett's Comedy Club.  Garrett was Ray Romanno's brother on Everybody Loves Raymond.

Inside the comedy club, waiting for the show to start.  We knew Brad Garrett himself would probably not be there, and he wasn't.  The show consisted of three other comedians.  They were funny but that said, all three were raunch city.   Comedy doesn't have to be like that.  It ruined the show for both Lynnette and I.  But as you can see, people pay the money to see it.

The Bellagio room rates skyrockected on Friday, so we moved to the Trump International for less than we paid for the Bellagio mid-week.  And surprisingly, the Trump room was better than the Bellagio's.  The view, of course, was not as good.

The Trump is not a casino-hotel.  There is no casino, and only one restaurant.  I believe the Trump is geared towards the businessman who is staying in town for an extended period.  The Trump is just off the main Las Vegas Boulevard and is only a short walk from the Wynn, Treasure Island and the Venetian.  A big mall is just across the street.
